I HOPE I'M WRONG

Every time I turn that old TV on

Someone’s saying we ain’t been so at odds

Since way on back in 1861, my God

It’s written in the lines of every face I meet

Everyone on edge with uncertainty

From the penthouse suite to the tents out on our streets

Oh the anger my friend is blowing in the wind

It sure feels like it won’t be long

Till something breaks and all is lost

But I hope I’m wrong, I hope I’m wrong

We got billions for bombs and pennies for peace

I did the math and it seems clear to me

But I hope I’m wrong

Now if you wanna hear what a lie sounds like

Just listen to one of them political types

Ain’t a seat on the hill that doesn’t have a price

How can it be that the slow will be fast

And the first one now will later be last

When they write the bills and we can’t pay the tab

O say can you still see this land was made for you and me

‘Cuz it sure feels like it won’t be long

Till something breaks and all is lost

But I hope I’m wrong, I hope I’m wrong

The data might say times have never been better

But something in the air says we’re in for stormy weather

But I hope I’m wrong

The only hope that I got left

Is the hope that I am wrong myself

And I hope I’m wrong
