BEN BOSTICK
SAY GOODNIGHT TO THE BLUES
When I close my eyes her memory lies beside me
So I dedicate nights to drink by drink wipe my mind clean
They say time heals all wounds
But I don’t think that it’s true
One more is never enough
To say goodnight to the blues
There was a time when her heart and mine beat as one
We improvised lines in effortless rhyme till the day was done
When one heart splits in two
There’s more than a lover to lose
God I wish I could find enough hope
To say goodnight to the blues
There’s a place that I know
That only the lonely can know
Where the clock moves too slow
And memory won’t let you go
I’m not naive enough to believe life’s fair
Or that God would receive the plea that I scream into the air
But O God if You do
I raise this glass to You
Here’s to the prayer You refuse
To let me say goodnight to the blues
